Société Générale obtains the first PSAN approval for crypto services

On July 18, 2023, Forge, a branch of Société Générale, marked the news by obtaining a rare and valuable approval in the field of crypto services: the PSAN. This authorization, which is particularly difficult to obtain for companies operating in the world of cryptocurrencies, opens up new perspectives for Forge in terms of services offered to its clients.

A historic pleasure for Forge

Forge thus became the first player to obtain PSAN accreditation for crypto services in Europe. Forge previously obtained the PSAN registration on September 27, 2022, which already enabled it to perform certain services related to digital assets. Obtaining this approval is a major step forward for the Societe Generale subsidiary, which has been multiplying experiments in the world of blockchain and cryptos for several years.

Innovations and experiments within SG-Forge

  • In April, SG-Forge launched the CoinVertible, a centralized stablecoin that can only be used by identified institutions and deployed on the public Ethereum Blockchain.
  • The company also initiated the first refinancing operation with a decentralized finance protocol in January.

These experiments put the Societe Generale Group at the forefront of innovation in the cryptocurrency and digital asset services sector.

PSAN accreditation: a step towards European regulation

Three months after announcing the launch of its euro stability, Societe Generale Forge confirms its good development by obtaining the first PSAN approval ever issued by the AMF. Until today, all digital service providers operating on the French market were simply registered, a less complex authorisation to obtain.

MiCA regulation and AMF requirements

This approval is the closest thing to the future status of service providers on digital assets provided for in the European MiCA regulation, in force from 2024 but actually applied from 2025. Société Générale thus meets all the requirements of the AMF (Autorité des Marchés Financiers) to carry out its cryptocurrency activities in France.

A major breakthrough for companies in the crypto sector

Société Générale, via Forge, becomes the first company to obtain a PSAN approval, a very sought-after and difficult title for cryptocurrency companies. In this frantic race, Société Générale has just scored a point by obtaining the famous approval.

Increased legitimacy for Forge and Société Générale

By obtaining this approval, SG-Forge is positioning itself as a key player in the cryptocurrency and digital asset services sector. Societe Generale’s subsidiary can now include services related to cryptocurrencies in its list of activities in France, which reinforces its legitimacy and attractiveness to potential customers and partners.

The first PSAN approval by Société Générale Forge is a major step forward for the French banking group and for the entire cryptocurrency sector. This event demonstrates the group’s desire to develop its digital asset activities and to position itself at the forefront of innovation in this field. Businesses in the crypto sector can thus expect increased competition from large banking groups, which will also seek this approval to expand their services and gain legitimacy.
