SafeBear: Using AI & Blockchain to fight cyberbullying

While more than half of French people have already been victims of cyberbullying, according to a study by IPSOS in 2021, this phenomenon particularly affects online gamers. To counter this growing threat, SafeBear was created in 2022.

Origin and will

Online gaming, once a place for sharing, is now often a place of malice, insults and abuse of all kinds. In response to this change, SafeBear was born. Using new technologies, including blockchain and AI, the company aims to offer a solution to combat cyberstalking.

Why SafeBear?

The name “SafeBear” is inspired by the “teddy bear”, a symbol of security and comfort for children. The company’s mascot, a smiling polar bear, embodies this image of protection.

SafeBear’s main target is families: parents who lose control over what their children do online, and children who are sometimes subjected to the gratuitous nastiness of other users.

In the face of these ever-increasing problems, SafeBear takes a holistic approach to combating cyberbullying, combining technology and support to create a safer, more caring digital environment.

“Digital technologies have broken down borders and brought people closer together through interaction platforms. This formidable technical and behavioral leap has all too often been accompanied by nuisances that interfere with social ties, sometimes seriously damaging our health”, we read on their website.

Innovative application

Intuitive user interface

  • Real-time notifications: Instant alerts if an attack is detected.
  • Simple usage: Accessible interface for all users.

Benefits of the SafeBear application

  • Optimized performance: Minimal impact on device performance.
  • Cross-platform compatibility: Available on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android.

Fighting cyberbullying

SafeBear’s diverse range of features plays a part in the fight against online harassment, which is difficult for parents to detect and is still very rarely convicted due to a lack of evidence. However, the consequences are sometimes dramatic for young people, and can destroy lives; so this is a real societal issue.

Here are the features provided by SafeBear that can be used by young and old alike to combat bullying:

Detection tool

  • Text analysis: Detecting signs of cyberbullying using natural language processing algorithms. SafeBear’s AI analyzes both private messages and public comments, and is able to identify content that is insulting, sexist, racist, threatening or any other form of cyberstalking.

Alert tool

  • Anyone associated with the SafeBear account (often parents) will be alerted in the event of aggression.
  • Weekly information: family and friends can receive activity reports to keep track of the younger children’s interactions and intervene in the event of problems, such as harassment.

Certification tool

  • Use of blockchain: SafeBear will use this tool to save messages deemed harassing. They will be dated, forgery-proof and stored securely to enable the victim to take legal action.
  • Working with the authorities: Working with the authorities (including PHAROS) to deal with serious cases of cyberstalking.

SafeBear intends to take advantage of new technologies to combat this growing problem, which claims so many victims every year.
