The year 2023 was a pivotal moment for the world of Web3 applications. According to a recent report by DappRadar, a blockchain analytics platform, Web3 apps experienced a phenomenal growth of 124%. This remarkable expansion was primarily driven by three key players: Near, Klaytn, and Arbitrum.

The report indicates that the number of unique active wallets (UAW) interacting with Web3 applications more than doubled in 2023. On average, 4.2 million UAW interacted with these apps daily, representing a massive increase compared to the previous year.
Among the various segments of Web3 applications, products related to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) saw the strongest growth, with a 166% rise compared to 2022. The decentralized finance (DeFi) sector followed with a 112% increase. Social media applications also recorded notable progress, rising by 29% thanks to leading protocols such as Friend.tech, Lens Protocol, and Galxe.
Growth leaders
Near, Klaytn, and Arbitrum stood out with their high growth rates. Near recorded an increase of 1,902%, Klaytn 1,099%, and Arbitrum 624%. Among the most popular applications on these networks are the loyalty rewards platform Kai-Ching, the fitness app SuperWalk, and the decentralized exchange Uniswap v3.
Conversely, Harmony, Solana, and Hive suffered the heaviest losses. Harmony’s UAW plummeted by 96%, Solana’s by 76%, and Hive’s by 68%. Harmony’s decline was attributed to the exploit of its bridge in June 2022 and its subsequent failure to recover. Solana faced similar issues due to its association with FTX, although it recorded an impressive recovery toward the end of the year.
