Scroll Ethereum ZkEVM officially launched

Scroll has just made an official announcement on its website. After a long period of development, the company is launching its mainnet. This is a solution for scaling the network of decentralized applications running on Ethereum. This news strengthens the presence of zkEVM solutions. It illustrates their role in improving the performance and efficiency of Ethereum.

What is Scroll Ethereum zkEVM?

Scroll is a scaling solution for Ethereum based on zero-knowledge disclosure proofs (zkSNARKs). The main aim of this technology is to solve the scalability problems associated with decentralized applications (dApps) using Ethereum as a platform. By combining thousands of transactions with data proofs on the Ethereum blockchain, Scroll enables these applications to operate more efficiently.

How does Scroll work?

Scroll's zkEVM technology simplifies transactions, considerably increasing the capacity of the Ethereum network. This process uses zk-SNARKs (zero-knowledge disclosure proofs) to verify the various operations carried out.

  • Transaction aggregation: Scroll compiles thousands of individual transactions before submitting the proof to the Ethereum blockchain.
  • Data reduction: Scroll creates a minimal proof that summarizes the essential data from aggregated transactions. As a result, the time required to verify the accuracy of transactions is reduced.
  • Validation and execution: Nodes on the Ethereum backbone verify and validate this minimal proof. Transactions are executed quickly, without clogging up the main chain.

Launch of Scroll's main network

According to information published by the Scroll team, the main network was launched after 15 months of intensive testing and security audits. Over 450,090 smart contracts have been deployed, enabling more than 9 million transactions.

Easy migration for existing applications

Scroll's Mainnet enables existing Ethereum-based applications and development tools to be migrated to the new solution. According to the Scroll team, everything starts immediately.

Initial centralization and gradual decentralization

Ye Zhang, co-founder of Scroll, previously said that the team will gradually work on decentralizing the project. He also mentioned that the launch of the main network will mark the start of community discussions to decide Scroll's future.

Other zkEVM solutions under development

Other solutions such as Polygon Hermez zkEVM, headed by Jordi Baylina, are also working on scaling the Ethereum network. The latter believes that these different initiatives only strengthen the Ethereum ecosystem and contribute to its evolution: "Having different projects adds a lot of experience and is also a way of testing different approaches, ways of managing things or solving problems."

Conclusion

With the launch of projects such as Scroll, we are gradually moving towards solving Ethereum's scalability problems. The emergence of these new solutions augurs well for the growing adoption of blockchain. The same applies to decentralized applications, which are becoming increasingly popular.
