Are cryptocurrencies and real estate compatible?

Lately, the cryptoeconomy has become more relevant. Specialists on the subject aspire to explain the benefits of a trend that is growing around the world, but has yet to land in Argentina and still raises doubts in some sectors. Although our country was one of the pioneers in opening up the world of cryptocurrencies, we are still in the process of “approaching” this new world that technology is presenting to us.

Some industries find it possible and positive to use cryptocurrencies to close transactions and “tokenization” as a financial tool enabling the digitization of an asset. Those who hold this view appreciate their fractionalization and democratization, as well as the ease and security of parting with the token. Others believe that their entry into the financial and business world will be more difficult than expected, and have certain reservations when it comes to promoting the use of these currencies in their commercial activities.

In the case of the real estate market, in recent months cryptocurrencies (mainly bitcoin) have begun to be used as a form of payment when concluding a transaction. As there is no framework that regulates it, this is an agreement between the parties in which the value of the property in this alternative currency is defined by mutual agreement. This is not only feasible, but also legal, as it doesn’t affect the usual bureaucratic procedures for buying and selling real estate, such as establishing title deeds, the deed of purchase and sale, etc. The only difference lies in the way the property is “paid for”, for which the parties involved agree on the value of the property and define the value of the cryptocurrency based on current exchange rate indicators.
