Pre-orders for Solana Mobile ‘Chapter 2’ offered a brief moment of profit to buyers of this cell phone before its release, thanks to memecoins token drops that briefly exceeded the pre-order cost.
Airdrops of memecoins tokens
The teams behind two cat-themed memecoin projects, Cat in a dog’s world (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI), have parachuted tokens to the wallets of crypto users who have pre-ordered the new Chapter 2 device, initially costing $450 upfront. On April 1, the team behind MEW parachuted 37,600 of its tokens to each holder. At its maximum post-airdrop price of $0.0089, this allocation was worth $334, according to CoinGecko data. Similarly, a total of 5,199 MANEKI were aided to each holder on April 24, which also reached a maximum price of $0.269 on April 25.
A potential gain
Combining these airdrops with other memecoins projects, including Wuffi (WUFFI), which airdropped 114,000 tokens to Chapter 2 wallets, holders could have earned $480, enabling them to pay for the device and even earn an additional $30, according to airdrop value checker twoloot.com. However, memecoins tokens have since dropped in value, with MEW now worth $220 and MANEKI falling to $124.
The link with the Saga phone
Holders of Solana’s first cell phone, the ‘Saga’, also received the same amount of Maneki in their respective wallets. The Saga phone was launched last May, but received criticism for its technical problems and difficulties of use. However, the phones began to sell out quickly in December when degenerates discovered a bizarre arbitrage opportunity presented by a memecoin rally for Bonk (BONK). Between November 15 and December 15, BONK’s price rose by over 1,100%.
