MetaMask is recognised as the leading wallet for the Ethereum ecosystem and for EVM-compatible blockchains. Recently, it has extended its support to non-EVM chains such as StarkNet and is now moving towards integrating the Bitcoin blockchain.
MetaMask’s forthcoming integration of Bitcoin
On 22 May, according to information reported by CoinDesk, MetaMask was preparing to integrate Bitcoin into the blockchains it supports. However, this information, which comes from anonymous sources close to the matter, has not yet been officially confirmed.
The precise launch date of this new feature remains unknown, but one of CoinDesk’s sources suggests that it could be unveiled within the next month. Specific details on the features also remain unspecified, although the Bitcoin ecosystem has seen various recent developments such as Ordinals, BRC-20, and Runes.
As far as official statements are concerned, ConsenSys, the company behind MetaMask, remains cautious. A spokesperson expressed MetaMask’s enthusiasm for adopting a multi-chain approach in the web3 world and stressed their ongoing commitment to developing new features to improve user experience and security. However, no precise timetable for these developments has been confirmed.
At the same time, MetaMask is exploring the area of airdrops by adding a new feature to its dashboard to help users avoid missing any potential airdrops.
